Dmitrii Ostretsov is an intermedia artist originally from Northern Russia. In his work, he explores the balance between reality and staging, intervening in the perception of the boundary where the public and private spheres intersect. He reflects on his life and experiences following his release from prison. Through his practice, he seeks a new form of freedom and strives to define it. He combines personal experience with a clear visual language, creating a deep and accessible narrative.
His work involves a combination of digital and analog techniques, layering images and fragments of time. The context of Dmitrii's work is rooted in his personal experience with emigration, a six-month incarceration in Lithuania, and a subsequent application for international protection. His work critiques systems of power and questions established rules, while simultaneously leaving traces of hope and expressing love. He aims to demonstrate that giving up is not an option and that sincerity is the only path to survival.
Currently, he focuses on the human relationship with modern technologies. He responds to technological advancement, mapping and documenting it through video projections that expand the possibilities of the image and the transformation of space. He seeks new forms to visualize profound internal questions.
